I discovered the music of Noah Nine a few weeks ago, and I have to say I’ve been incredibly impressed. First, his songwriting is exceptional, but what stands out just as much is his voice. He has an incredible ability to express emotion through his lyrics in a way that vividly takes you back to moments you’ve experienced in your own life. His vocal range is equally astounding. I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone with a more versatile voice, effortlessly moving from deep lows to soaring highs throughout his songs.
The message of this song, “A Man Can Cry,” especially resonates with me. As men, I think many of us were taught from an early age that we’re supposed to be tough and that tears are somehow a sign of weakness. But this song reminds me otherwise. As Noah sings:
“…Even kings can bow on their knees. There’s strength in pain, no shame in why. It’s not weak when a man can cry.”
Those words immediately bring to mind the shortest verse in Scripture:
“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35
If the Son of God could openly express grief, then tears are not a sign of weakness—they’re a reminder of our humanity.
